Background
(Find the call here in PDF to download)
Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) in partnership with Energising Development (EnDev), with funding from the Netherlands Directorate General for International Cooperation, (DGIS), is implementing the Demand Side Results Based Financing (DSRBF) project aimed at increasing energy access through bridging the affordability gap for clean cooking technologies and off-grid solar products in underserved refugee communities and their host communities in Northern Uganda, Kiryandongo and other additional locations such as Amuru, Maracha, Nebbi, Nwoya, Moyo, Pakwach, and Zombo districts with modern cooking as well as solar PV technologies.
The Demand Side RBF shall offer incentives to private sector companies and other entities to trigger a mandatory price reduction equivalent to a set affordability gap only within targeted project locations. The subsidy shall be indirectly transfered to the end-user as a discounted price through companies that will be selected through a competitive tender process).
The project targets to reach 23,000 households with tier 1 Off-Grid Solar (OGS) products (1,300 for Lanterns, 2,000 for Lanterns with a phone charging option, 20,000 for Solar Home Systems), 185,000 households with Improved Cook Stoves (ICS), and 5,000 households with Higher Tier Clean Cooking Stoves (HTCCs) (2,000 for EPCS, 1,500 for Ethanol and 1,500 for modern ICS). The sales targets will be split 50%/50% between refugees and host community members for off-grid solar and improve cookstoves. However, this shall not apply for higher tier clean cooking technologies.
PSFU invites applications from interested private sector companies and other entities toparticipate in the project.
