The Global Electric Cooking Coalition (GeCCo) is a collaboration of eCooking advocates seeking to significantly scale up access to electric cooking solutions across the world, reducing the environmental impact of cooking and improving the quality of life for millions of people.

Every April 22nd, stakeholders of all backgrounds come together to advance sustainability and climate action in commemoration of Earth Day. As one of the largest energy access programmes in the world, EnDev is contributing to the protection of ecosystems by, for example, replacing usage of non-renewable biomass and fossil fuels with renewable energy.

Entrepreneurs are a cornerstone of an economically viable and sustainable mini-grid – they increase the demand for electricity while boosting the local economy. This was the rationale for EnDev Rwanda’s Productive Use of Energy intervention at existing mini-grid sites, which were struggling with too little demand for electricity.

Charcoal is an immensely important cooking fuel in Eastern DRC, yet its prevalence in this conflict-prone region has high economic and environmental costs. EnDev and the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme present an assessment that could instead make electric cooking (eCooking) increasingly feasible in Eastern DRC.

In the village of Gera Konso region, EnDev is currently supporting the construction of a 140 kWp mini-grid along four other sites across the country. This solar mini-grid, co-funded by the European Union (EU), and implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Water and Energy, will electrify 870 households.
