From Lessons Learned to Lasting Impact: EnDev’s Side Events at Africa Climate Summit 2025

Energy for entrepreneurship.

From 08-10 September the climate and energy world gathers in Addis Ababa for the Africa Climate Summit 2025. EnDev and its associated project “Promotion of Climate-Friendly Cooking: Kenya and Senegal” are proud to co-host two side events that spotlight the role of energy access in driving climate action and sustainable development.

Both events bring together policymakers, development partners, and private sector leaders to exchange lessons learned, celebrate achievements, and chart the way forward for scaling sustainable energy access solutions across Africa.

Energising Africa’s Future – Building on Two Decades of EnDev Experience

📍 Addis Ababa | 8 September 2025 | 16:30–17:45 EAT | Team Europe Pavilion, AICC

For 20 years, EnDev has facilitated access to clean, reliable energy for over 33 million people in 20 countries, powered by strong partnerships and a market-based approach.

This anniversary side event is more than a celebration—it’s a forward-looking dialogue.

Together with representatives from the EU Commission / DG INTPA, the Ethiopian Ministry of Water and Energy and GOGLA, we will explore:

Which lessons and strategies can drive scale in energy access?
What partnerships are needed to achieve SDG7 and ensure no one is left behind?

With a keynote from the Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum , insights from Alexander Haack (EnDev Programme Director), and closing remarks from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) , this event offers a unique opportunity to reflect on EnDev’s journey—and to shape the future of energy access.

Event 2: Accelerating Markets for Climate-Friendly Cooking in Africa – Energy Access Meets Climate Mitigation

📍 Addis Ababa | 9 September 2025 | 12:00–13:30 EAT | Room M7, Addis International Convention Center

Clean cooking is key to achieving both energy access and climate goals. This event marks the international closure of GCF-BMZ funded project “Promotion of Climate-Friendly Cooking: Kenya and Senegal,” co-hosted with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Kenya and the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition, Senegal.

Highlights include:

  • Keynotes from H.E. James Opiyo Wandayi, Cabinet Secretary for Energy & Petroleum, Kenya, and H.E. Professor Daouda Ngom, Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Senegal.
  • A high-level panel with voices from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), BMZ, GIZ, and national ministries on scaling climate-friendly cooking across Africa.
  • The launch of the Lessons Learned Report, showcasing project impact:
    • 3.3 million tonnes CO₂ reduced
    • 15 million people reached with climate-friendly cookstoves
    • Markets transformed for sustainable growth

This side event highlights the growing momentum to integrate clean cooking into national climate agendas—and opens the door for replication across Africa.

Looking ahead

Together, these two events reflect EnDev’s dual role: celebrating achievements while driving forward collaboration and innovation for universal energy access. From two decades of hands-on experience to transformative climate-friendly cooking initiatives, EnDev continues to work with governments, partners, and communities to turn ambition into lasting impact.
