The fourth and last webinar of the series discussed manifold ways of designing verification systems: from applying digital technology to measuring impact and using innovation.

The 4th webinar on 3rd November, 14:30 – 16:00h CET/MEZ

By building on the RBF approach, EnDev’s Facility aims to bring energy access markets to scale by disbursing funds to recipients only once a pre-agreed set of results has been achieved. One of the key principles of this is that independent verification of results is the trigger for disbursement, which lies at the heart of any RBF project. Designing a robust independent verification system is therefore crucial: the success of any RBF project relies on knowing if and when to pay incentives for the results companies claim to have achieved – the value you get for your money. Without robust verification processes, it is impossible to know whether the results you set out to achieve have been accomplished. Under the RBF Facility projects were given freedom to design and apply flexible approaches to address context-specific energy market viability gaps. Whilst EnDev’s lessons learnt may not necessarily apply universally, they however form an important basis for the following discussion:

  • Are verification processes in RBF projects value for money or a waste of time?
  • What role do robust verification systems play in RBF projects?
  • Which verification tools can be applied and what added value do they have?

The fourth and last webinar of the series discussed manifold ways of designing verification systems: from applying digital technology to gain customer insight as applied in the Mekong region or using independent verifiers to measure impact beyond sales results as conducted in Tanzania. Challenges are common but they can be addressed using innovation, the latter for which HIVOS and Techno Brain provided an example in the context of Kenya.
